notes

The king sends for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern who are Hamlet's friends from when he was younger to spy on him and see what he is up too. Creating false statements for them to find out about.
Hamlet calls Polonius a fishmonger which is a metephor for the is a pimp but he doesn't exactly pick up on this. Hamlet knows that Polonius is calling him crazy and that he is asking questions to spy on him but he just goes along with it and actually pretends to be some what crazy or like he has lost his mind in order to spy on people around himself; trying to see how other people act to this.
metephors of prostition
themes of curruption and lying/ spying reappear.
hamlet is referred to as bad as he is used in a metaphor as a maggot where he says that the sun can bring the good as well as the bad.

scene 1.1

1) The intrest starts off when the ghost of old hamlet appears, their old king. Who when he shows up he is full armor gear which draws intrest because that was not his normal atire. Giving the question to those who see him. What is going on? What is about to happen? When the guards attempt to ask him questions he does not reply.
2) Given the fact that when they find out he is their dead king, he is in full armor which arises the question of why and what is going to happen. The guards tend to question what is going on and when they look at other nations and what has happened to them after the death of their kings.
3) When the ghost reappears the guards try to do anything they can to get his attention or to stay since he will not talk to any of them. They ask the ghost to meet Hamlet, which builds greater intrest.
4) Well being that a ghosts shows up and that he will not speak. No one knowing why he is there i would say the mood is Confused.
5) One reason is that the ghost is that of their dead king and being that he is in his armor that no good is too come. Second, is the fact that he wont talk and keeps showing up and know one knows why.
6) That he is there to warn them. That their current king will have no good to come from him.
7)guards: Horatio, Marcellus, Barnardo. and then the ghost of old hamlet.
8) He mentions that Old King Hamlet and King Fortinbras were enemies and that they once had a battle.
9) the son of old king fortinbras
10) That once Julius Cesar died that Rome had a similar thing happed to them. That they saw the ghost of Julius and later Rome fell. Causing them to think that their fate may be the same.
11) Horatio does not believe the ghost is real, but Barnardo and Marcellus do.
12) because they thought it would take someone who was smart to be able to talk to the ghost of old king hamlet and Horatio is a scholar. However they were wrong.
13) That the relationship with Denmark and Norway is similar to old king hamlet and king fortinbras.
